The One Thing Most People Do Wrong During their Workout
Do you always feel like getting through a workout is a struggle to you? There is just something about it that makes it feel like a chore rather than fun (which it should be). Maybe you’ve given up on it even though you know all the benefits it has for you. Maybe motivation isn’t the issue, but what you are doing in your workout that is stopping you from achieving your full potential. So here is what most people get wrong:
Shocking, you probably weren’t expecting that. But let me tell you why this is important for you.
You know that point during your workout when it gets too hard and you rethink your whole life and your entire being? Yep, I’ve been there. Somehow it just feels too hard to move along and to keep pushing. You know you should keep pushing, but you just feel out of breath. Well, that’s because you are not breathing.
Here is the secret:
When the workout gets hard, focus on your breathing. Breathe in and out. Tell yourself you will be okay because you will be. The voice that is telling you “I can’t keep going” (unless you are in an immediate danger), is just a thought. You are more than that.
Breathing is the most essential yet underrated aspect of fitness. A lot of people overlook this without knowing that just the act of breathing might be what gets you through your workout.
Just because it is hard doesn’t not mean that you can’t rise above it
Just because it is hard doesn’t mean that you don’t have what it takes
Just because it is hard doesn’t mean that you stop breathing
I used to hold my breath while lifting weights or doing abs workouts because I thought that it was what will get me through my workout, but my workout only got harder because there was no oxygen in my body to be able to feed my body with the energy that it needed.
Many people hold their breath because we want to avoid pain, but there is no growth if we don’t push past our comfort zone. Without change there is no accomplishment and I know you are yearning for that feeling of victory.
This is also a big safety point for you. You can pass out if you do not breathe during your workout. That is a big No- No.
Think of a breath as a tool to help you not one that will hinder you. I mean you already breath 24/7 so keep up the same energy with your workouts.
Focus on your breath when going through that threshold seems like a lot for you. Wonder how I know this and how this was a game changer in my life? Meditation.
You probably guessed it as you read through this post. I will do another post about the benefit of meditation, but for now focus on your breathing.
Breathe through the pain and know that whatever roadblock you will go through, you will get through it. It might seem impossible to you right now; I know that you will.
